For every exhaustive anthology — SoulMusic’s 12-disc field of Dionne Warwick‘s decade on Scepter Data, for starters — a dozen single-album reissues have been simply as worthy of being singled out. No fewer than 5 of the titles listed have been initially launched by Charles Tolliver and Stanley Cowell‘s Strata-East label, now underneath the stewardship of Mack Avenue. 4 of us have been captivated by a mysterious Mal Waldron date that few heard upon authentic launch in 1975, whereas some found that Buckingham Nicks — having been out of print for over 50 years — was hardly a pre-fame embarrassment. After which there have been myriad multi-disc compilations catering to explorers of old-fashioned R&B, synth pop, British folks, German rock, and extra, even electroclash.
