NPR’s Ailsa Chang speaks with Raina Douris, host of World Cafe at member station WXPN, about Mitski’s new album, Nothing’s About to Occur to Me.
AILSA CHANG, HOST:
For those who’ve solely ever heard one sound from the rock artist Mitski, there’s an opportunity it might need been this one.

CHANG: Love that track.

DOURIS: I do know. As a cat proprietor, I actually associated to that. The press launch for this album says itself, Mitski explores a wealthy narrative whose important character is a reclusive girl in an unkempt home. Outdoors of her house, she’s a deviant. Within her house, she is free.
CHANG: Ooh.
DOURIS: And there is a theme of isolation to those songs and of separation from the skin world, which I discover so fascinating as a result of Mitski has this lively fan base, and she or he has needed to arrange some sturdy boundaries round her private life.
CHANG: So while you take heed to this file and also you’re serious about a girl, an artist who has needed to set her personal boundaries, is there a track that displays that?
DOURIS: The one that actually grabbed me instantly and the one which I have never actually been in a position to cease serious about is a track known as “Lifeless Girls.” It begins with the road, would you will have appreciated me higher if I would died so you may inform my story?
